PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Commissioned by Triennale Milano in partnership with Konstantin Grcic Studio, TORNANTE is an AI-generated video triptych that envisions the future of winter sports through speculative design and artificial intelligence.
The work closes the WHITEOUT exhibition—a landmark show curated by Konstantin Grcic and Marco Sammicheli that explores how design responds to the climate crisis threatening winter sports. Presented during the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, WHITEOUT examines the intersection of technology, materials, and extreme environments, questioning what happens when the snow disappears and how design intelligence can shape more sustainable futures for winter disciplines.
Currently on view at Triennale Milano through March 15, 2026
STATEMENT
TORNANTE presents an infinite loop oscillating between two conditions: the residue of a contemporary, drone-saturated metropolis and a hallucinated alpine environment that imagines the future of winter sports through total optimization. The work is a seamless loop of one minute and twenty-three seconds that never settles in either place. Instead, it moves continuously between them, producing a rhythm of aspiration and return.
The journey is generated entirely by standard AI systems that operate less like architects and more like dream machines processing fractured reflections of our collective digital imagination. The alpine destination that emerges is not speculative in the traditional sense. It is assembled from archived aesthetics, historical victories, and idealized representations of athletic performance that already circulate online.
In this imagined environment, eco-architecture fuses directly into the mountain. Athletes merged with exoskeletons glide across man-made snow that is always pristine. Biology is no longer a constraint. Body and landscape collapse into a single optimized system designed for efficiency, inclusion, and seamless performance.
This future is not invented from nothing. It is extracted from what already exists. A constant tension emerges as we ask the archive to shape the unknown, stretching the memory of old victories and inherited instructions into new forms of survival.
The ambient sound is generated by the same system, allowing the machine to determine its own atmosphere as an audible extension of the same predictive process shaping the images.
Yet the loop always returns to the city. This return reframes the alpine fantasy as a psychological artifact rather than a solution, introducing a quiet and unsettling question: Why does our digital dream appear so pristine while our physical reality remains so unresolved?
TORNANTE leaves us suspended between two possibilities. Is this hallucinated perfection a speculative blueprint for survival, or simply a cheap recording we generate to anesthetize ourselves against the world we continue to abandon?
